Biography of Charles Herber - Photographer
• Born: 1955, Yakima, Washington. We relocated to Willy City, Washington, where I attended elementary school until sixth grade. Subsequently, we moved to Portland, Oregon, where I completed grades six through eight. I attended high school in Portland and West Lynn High Schools.
• Military Service: In 1975, I enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and completed my service in 1979.
• Education: In 1981, I began studying photography at Portland State Community College under the guidance of a seasoned news photographer with 35 years of experience. My focus was on black and white as well as color film photography.
• Career Path:
• 1982: Moved to Huntsville, Alabama, and studied photography within the fine arts department at Calhoun Community College. During this period, I continued my passion for photography, capturing weddings, events, portraits, and landscapes as an amateur photographer over the next 35 years.
• 1987: Graduated from Drake State Technical College with an associate degree in Electronics. Employed by Boeing at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, providing audiovisual services for NASA.
• 2005-2015: Established my own AV business.
• Subsequently: Worked for Army Material Command for five years and currently employed at Lockheed Martin, specializing in conference room design and video teleconference technology. Planning to retire from audiovisual work within 1-2 years.
• Photography Reinforcement: In 2023/2024, I decided to further pursue my passion for photography by studying at Photo Serge Institute of Photography, focusing on digital photography and advanced techniques. I aim to attain my Master Certificate in Photography by 2025.
• Current Endeavors: Currently engaged in landscape photography, enjoying travel to various locations including Myrtle Beach, SC, Charleston, SC, Georgetown, SC, and Chattanooga, TN. Future include wildlife photography at campsites and a lighthouse tour up the East Coast starting in Savannah, Georgia, followed by a trip to Cape Cod for another lighthouse exploration. Looking forward to discovering new horizons.
